Come join us for the Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti
On Tuesday, 19 November you are invited to join in an amazing event for our country and our future: a national Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti under the banner of kotahitanga (unity) is arriving in our beautiful city, and we want everyone to be involved. It’s going to be a great day for Aotearoa NZ.
Ko wai mātou? Who is Tiriti Action Group – Pōneke
Tiriti Action Group – Pōneke is a community group who supports actions for rangatiratanga, kotahitanga and justice in Te Upoko o te Ika (Wellington city and Hutt Valley). We operate under the korowai of mana whenua (Te Kotahitanga o Taranaki Whānui ki te Upoko o te Ika).
Our principles:
- To act in honour of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Nu Tireni
- To work in partnership with and be guided by mana whenua
- To conduct the mahi of this committee under the tikanga o Te Kahu o te Raukura
- To be independent from political parties.
What can I do as part of the Hīkoi?
- Attend the Hīkoi: you are invited to join the Hīkoi and bring your friends, family and any groups/organisations that you belong to. Make a banner or placard supporting Te Tiriti with your own special message. You can also get your own Together for Te Tiriti placard here.
- Volunteer at the Hīkoi: we are looking for lots of hands to manaaki (host) the many thousands of out of town visitors on the day of the Hīkoi. If you would like to sign up to volunteer on the day, please contact us here
- Donate to the local Hīkoi fund: with a bit of help from you and lots of others, we are aiming to raise a minimum of $30,000 for the many hosting responsibilities. We take hosting and safety very seriously. We want to put our best foot (and faces) forward, so please give generously: Kiwibank Account: 38-9007-0839416-00 (please note the account is in the name of Peace Action Wellington). We are also seeking specific resources/gear for use on the day, see our resource list here if you are able to help.
- Help spread the word about the Hīkoi to your friends, family and networks: we want the Hīkoi to be an event that showcases the incredibly diverse support for Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Everyone is welcome in this kaupapa. Please share our social media messages – we are on Instagram here and facebook here.
- Provide accommodation: If you are part of an organisation that has group accommodation space or would like to provide billeting for individuals from out of town, please email our Manaaki Ohu and let them know what you have available.
Keep up to date on the latest info:
While preparations are underway, not everything is set in stone. We strongly encourage you to check in on full details closer to the date: We will be updating our platforms as details are confirmed.
