Tiriti Action Group – Pōneke will be working to retain Māori wards for Greater Wellington Regional Council (WRC), Wellington City Council (WCC) and Hutt City Council (HCC). We are also working to uphold Mana Whenua partnerships across local government.

These councils will be running a poll at the election asking voters whether they support keeping Māori Wards or not after the 2028 Local election. WRC will have its first vote for an actual role in 2025: One elected member for a single Māori constituency, covering the whole Wellington Region and named Te Upoko o te Ika a Māui Māori Constituency.
The election is by way of postal voting from 9 September 2025 To 11 October 2025. Māori wards question: Your two poll options will be: I vote to keep the Māori ward / I vote to remove the Māori ward.

Our campaign
We are an independent, grassroots community group who connect and collaborate across the motu. We are not aligned to any political party.
Our election work means getting the word out across the region in a variety of different ways from putting up posters, to hosting events and stalls, to door knocking and more. We need lots of help with the mahi, so we encourage you to get involved. You don’t need any special skills to be involved, and depending on what role you would like to take, we are offering training so everyone feels well equipped to talk about Māori wards.

Election training
To support you to hone your skills and connect with others so we can get out and encourage people to vote to keep Māori wards we are offering some training workshops
