Tiriti Action group Poster Competition
On 29 April 1840 Te Tiriti o Waitangi was signed here in Te Whanganui a Tara. To mark the date, Tiriti Action Group – Pōneke is running a poster competition for kura in the region.
With so many schools re-confirming their commitment to Te Tiriti, let’s celebrate what this powerful document means in our area – and honour our ongoing responsibility to listen to our histories, to respect our local relationships, and to create a place together that we are all proud of.
We have a number of prizes across age groups, and some really cool class prizes up for grabs! The winning posters will also be shared via social media and displayed across the region.
When:
Anytime during Week 1 and week 2 of Term 2 – including Wednesday 29th April.
We hope this competition can be incorporated into your classes so students have the opportunity to learn a bit more about their local histories and local connections.
The competition closes on Wednesday 6 May**DATE**.
How to enter:
To submit your posters to the competition please scan or take clear photos of the individual posters with the student’s name and year group clearly displayed and email the files to our email address: tiritiactiongroup@gmail.com
By entering you agree that we can share winning entries, names of students and their school via our social media and in the local community.
The brief: Could be good to have a template for teachers to print out if they want with place for kids to write names, class, school and a frame/title
Design a poster that you think best shows the qualities and values of Te Tiriti and the relationships it gives us in our area.
We think Te Tiriti is the foundation for all of us to live together well in Aotearoa. Imagine a city where we all know our histories, we know the places, the pūrakau, and taonga that are important to mana whenua. We respect mana whenua tino rangatiratanga, and we all work together to look after each other and te taiao.
Create a poster that reflects the values and qualities that speak to you. It could be connected to the values of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga, kotahitanga. It could be connected to the special places of this area. It could be showing how you want our city to look and what you want people to be doing when we work together guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi. It’s up to you!
